At Idaho Orthodontics, we are always looking to improve patient care, shorten treatment times, and increase treatment options by utilizing the latest technological advancements. 3D cone beam x-ray imaging, digital impressions (sorry, those goopy impressions aren’t used as often), 3D printing, and lasers are some of the technology used.

3D Cone Beam CT Scan

As doctors we see in 3-dimensions and treat 3-dimensional patients, so why don’t most orthodontists use 3-dimensional x-ray imaging? Idaho Orthodontics has been the leader in this technology in the area and have been using it since 2008. Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) allows our doctors to better access tooth positions, bone levels and support, jaw issues, and airway issues better than any other type of orthodontic x-rays.

Digital Impressions

Gone are the days of having to be worried about gagging on the large goopy impressions. We try to make your orthodontic visits as comfortable as possible – so we have incorporated the use of digital impressions. If you have a fear of impressions, let us know and you can experience a digital impression and say goodbye to the sensitive gag reflex.

3D Printing

We have introduced the southeast Idaho dental community to the digital age with the utilization of 3D printing. Using our digital impressions we are able to print a model of your teeth for use with diagnosing, treating, and holding your teeth better after braces are removed.

Have you experienced minor movements of your teeth? With 3D impressions and printing, we can use this technology to digitally move your teeth, create a set of models that will be used by the lab to make a set of aligners to perfect your smile again.

Moving, heading off to school, or have a busy life that makes it hard to come in to replace a lost or broken retainer? If we have taken a digital impression and you have been faithfully wearing your retainers, so no movement has taken place, you can call us and we can 3D print another model and our lab can have a retainer ready for pickup or mailing without even having to come in for an appointment.

Orthodontic Lasers

The longer a patient is in braces, the more risk they have of getting unsightly white spots on their teeth, burning out on treatment, or decreasing in compliance. During orthodontic treatment, there are times that the orthodontist has to slow down treatment to wait for a tooth to grow in once there is space for it. Now with the laser we can, with no shots, access the tooth and bring it into the mouth with no extra charge. In most cases, this will save 4-6 months of time in braces.
